Wellness Programs focus on preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Many of our programs promote healthy behaviors such as quitting tobacco products, eating a balanced diet, and being physically active. The Florida Department of Health in Escambia County has a team of subject matter specialists consisting of health educators, nutrition educators, and registered dietitians working to create informational materials and deliver presentations to the community. Support is also available for organizations that are making healthy changes and need guidance and resources from our subject matter specialists. Healthy Communities Florida
Currently, only one in three Floridians are at a healthy weight. We support the Healthiest Weight Florida Initiative by engaging the community through our Wellness Programs such as RESET: Small Steps, Big Change, a Diabetes Prevention Program and 5210 Northwest Florida.
Tobacco Free Florida in Escambia County
Smoking is the #1 cause of preventable death in the United States and every day 88 Floridians die due to tobacco related illnesses. The Tobacco Free Florida Program is administered locally at the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County, Florida. Our efforts focus on improving the health of Escambia County residents through policy and systems change.
