5-2-1-0 Healthy Escambia Logo

The 5-2-1-0 Northwest Florida! program promotes healthy behaviors for children and their families to grow healthy and maintain a healthy weight. This can help prevent conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, high-blood pressure, and some cancers.

School health nurses, dietitians, and health and nutrition educators work with community and school partners to encourage families to adopt these lifestyle behaviors. This is done in child care centers, schools, after school and summer care, at community events, and more.

Contact us for more information or to request 5-2-1-0 at your event.

5 or More Fruits and Vegetables Every Day

Five or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day helps children get the vitamins they need to support growth and development and a healthy immune system.

2 Hours or Less Recreational Screen Time

Too much screen time promotes sitting still. This has been linked to unhealthy weight, lower reading scores, and attention problems.

It is best to limit screens such as television, video and computer games, and handheld devices such as tablets and smartphones.

1 Hour or More of Physical Activity

Being active helps manage weight and reduces the risk of osteoporosis and heart disease. For kids, we call this play time!

Make it fun by playing active games as a family such as relays, hula hoops, or sports.

0 Sugary Drinks - More Water and Low-Fat Milk

Drinking soda and other sugary beverages puts children at risk for unhealthy weight gain and dental cavities. The image shows a young boy drinking from a plastic water bottle while enjoying the outdoors, with a background of green, blurred foliage. The boy is wearing a black shirt and appears content and refreshed as he sips the water.

Low-fat milk is a great source of calcium, which is important for growing strong bones and teeth.

Water is important to maintain a healthy immune system and staying hydrated.
