Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) are trained public health professionals who specialize in case management by using contact tracing and case investigation to prevent and control infectious diseases. Our DIS provides confidential counseling, testing, and treatment for persons either diagnosed, exposed, or at increase risk for an STD to improve the health outcomes in our county.
Clients who are diagnosed with an STD are also offered partner services that allow notification, testing, and treatment of their sex or needle sharing partners. These services result in greater confidentiality for clients and their partners, as well as providing more effective notification and treatment. This service is provided to clients on a voluntary basis and is strictly confidential.
Following an STD diagnosis, the county health department DIS offers counseling and partner referral services to those individuals who might benefit from treatment.
Do not be alarmed if one of our trained DIS contacts you, we are here to help!
