Reported COVID-19 illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed cases. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure. COVID-19 symptoms commonly include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

Many people infected by COVID-19 have mild illness and can recover at home.

Adults 65 and older and those with underlying medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes and lung disease are more likely to develop serious illness.

Effective April 1, 2022, FDOH-Escambia has suspended specimen collection for COVID-19 offered at 1295 West Fairfield Drive in Pensacola due to a decline in demand for COVID-19 tests. 

Sites for COVID-Testing in Escambia County 

COVID-19 testing is available at several locations in Escambia County.

Testing sites and eligibility criteria vary and are subject to change. You can find testing site locations statewide by visiting FloridaHealthCOVID19.gov/Testing-Sites.

FDOH-Escambia is offering COVID-19 vaccines to eligible persons at the FDOH-Escambia Fairfield clinic: 1295 W Fairfield Dr, Pensacola, FL 32501. By appointment only. Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call 850-595-6554 to schedule an appointment. 

FDOH-Escambia encourages those who are eligible to get vaccinated. The authorized vaccines are effective against COVID-19. You can find a vaccine location near you by visiting FloridaHealthCOVID19.gov/Vaccines/Vaccine-Locator. Stress, anxiety, fear, and depression are all common during an infectious disease outbreak. The Center for Disease Controllists some common ways you may feel stress during this time.

    • Fear and worry about your health and the health of your loved one
    • Changes in sleep or eating patterns
    • Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
    • Worsening of chronic health problems
    • Worsening of mental health conditions
    • Increased use of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs

FDOH-Escambia serves as a resource to the school districts on how to open schools in the safest manner and what mitigation strategies to employ at the time and in the manner determined by the local school districts. The county health department works collaboratively with the local superintendent, school district and school board to provide county data and trends and educate on mitigation strategies to make the school environment as safe as possible.
