The Communications, Health Education, and Nutrition Division (CHEN) educates and informs the public on a variety of health topics focused on chronic disease and injury prevention. CHEN works with other Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (DOH–Escambia) divisions and programs to deliver clear, consistent, and accurate health messages.
CHEN staff develops radio and billboard campaigns, health fair exhibits, presentations for the public, and fact sheets on a variety of health topics. Special emphasis is placed on obesity prevention through nutrition and physical activity.
Registered dietitians work in schools, childcare centers and other community settings to promote healthy eating choices.
The Women Infants and Children's (WIC) Program
WIC clients receive nutrition counseling, meal planning, breastfeeding support, and food vouchers for eligible pregnant women and children under age five.
Healthy Choices Restaurants Program
Through its partnership with select local restaurant owners, the DOH-Escambia provides a sensible solution to the increasing obesity rate in Escambia County: The Healthy Choices Restaurants (HCR) Program. The HCR program encourages family dining in restaurants that offer healthy choices to make the dining experience a healthy one!
Tobacco Free Florida in Escambia County
The Tobacco Free Escambia (TFF-Escambia) Program encourages behavior change through media and marketing, group counseling, community presentations and activities. This program incorporates tobacco use prevention initiatives, cessation, community involvement and social norm change in their mission to move Escambia County towards a healthier tobacco-free environment.

Public Information Officer
The Public Information Officer (PIO) serves as the main media contact for public health issues. All press releases are available in the Newsroom.
Provides a framework upon which an integrated and comprehensive approach to monitoring, assessing and improving the quality of work can be built. Our work encompasses all aspects of Quality Improvement including state and local level measuring and reporting, national accreditation, and strategic planning.
