Don't Let the FLU get YOU!

Contact Us

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness with various signs and symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle/body aches, headaches, chills, and fatigue.

Get Vaccinated

Flu vaccines are offered in many locations including doctor’s offices, clinics, pharmacies, colleges and universities, and by some employers. Find locations that are providing flu vaccines in your community at www.flu.gov.Flu Shot

The Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (DOH-Escambia) recommends an annual flu vaccine for everyone six months of age and older. Vaccination is highly recommended for adults who are age 65 and older, children between the age of six months and 5 years of age and people with chronic health conditions because these groups are more likely to experience complications from the seasonal flu.

Cover your Nose and Mouth

If you do not have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow, not your hands. The flu spreads when a person with the flu coughs, sneezes, or talks and droplets containing their germs land in your mouth or nose. You can also spread the flu by touching a surface or object that has the flu virus on it, and then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.

Wash your Hands

Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

Clean and Disinfect Surfaces and Objects

Routinely clean frequently touched objects and surfaces, including doorknobs, keyboards, and phones to help remove germs. Make sure you have an adequate supply of tissues, soap, and paper towels, and alternatives like alcohol-based hand rubs, and disposable wipes.

Stay Home

When you are sick, limit close contact with others. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread easily this way.
