5-2-1-0 Escambia Logo
The 5-2-1-0 Northwest Florida! program promotes healthy behaviors for children and their families to grow healthy and maintain a healthy weight. This can help prevent diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, high-blood pressure, and some cancers. School health nurses, dietitians, and health and nutrition educators teach 5-2-1-0 to children and their families in childcare centers, at schools, in afterschool care and summer care locations, at community events, and more. Read below to learn more about the 5-2-1-0 messages and contact us for more information or to request 5-2-1-0 at your event.

5 or more fruits and vegetables every day

Five or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day helps children get the vitamins they need to support growth and development and a healthy immune system.

2 hours or less recreational screen time

Too much screen time promotes sitting still. This has been linked to unhealthy weight, lower reading scores, and attention problems. It is best to limit screens such as television, video and computer games, and handheld devices such as tablets and smartphones.

1 hour or more of physical activity

Being active helps manage weight and reduces the risk of osteoporosis and heart disease. For kids, we call this play time! Make it fun by playing active games as a family such as relays, hula hoops, or sports.

0 sugary drinks, more water and low-fat milk

Drinking soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages puts children at risk for unhealthy weight gain, dental cavities, and too little of the drinks they need such as milk and water.Drink zero sugary beverages
