Bring Home Memories Not Diseases Immunizations can protect you from many diseases common in other countries. Preparation for foreign travel should include a visit to your health care provider to talk about health safety at your destination.

  • Set up and Overseas Travel Consultation for immunizations at least 4-6 weeks in advance of departure.
  • Bring a personal immunization record or card of immunization dates.
  • Check CDC Travel Notices for information about current health issues related to specific destinations.

In addition to routine adult vaccinations, the following travel vaccinations are available at FDOH Escambia:

Important Yellow Fever Vaccination Information 

The Yellow Fever Vaccine is indicated for travelers 9 months through 59 years. Due to an increased risk for side effects, the following travelers must obtain either an authorization or an exemption letter from your physician prior to scheduling an immunization appointment at FDOH Escambia. 

Travelers who are 60 years old or older - your physician may authorize Yellow Fever vaccination with a prescription. It should include the following:

  • Traveler's name
  • Traveler
  • s date of birth
  • Statement of good health, such as "Patient is immune competent to receive the live virus vaccine for Yellow Fever."

Immunocompromised Travelers - those who take medications/treatments that impair the immune system, have cancer, a history of allergy to eggs, chicken, or gelatin may have a medical contraindication to vaccination. Your physician may complete an exemption letter, on letterhead stationery, which includes the following:

  • Traceler's name
  • Traveler's date of birth
  • List of all medical conditions that contraindicate the yellow fever vaccine
  • Physican's signature
  • Date
