FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IN ESCAMBIA COUNTY RELEASES 2016 ANNUAL REPORT

Pensacola, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (FDOH-Escambia) is pleased to release its combined Organizational Profile and 2016 Annual Report, which delivers a snapshot of the organization, including community health status and improvement goals along with 2016 highlights and accomplishments.

“We are making great strides to improve the health of all people living in Escambia County, Florida thanks to the commitment from our dedicated staff and collaboration with community organizations,” said FDOH-Escambia Director John J. Lanza, MD, PhD, MPH, FAAP.

Some Featured Highlights and Accomplishments in 2016

  • ·         In March 2016, FDOH-Escambia became part of the first integrated, statewide public health system to be accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board;
  • ·         New programs aimed at chronic disease prevention were introduced in 2016, such as the PreventT2 Lifestyle Change Program and the Worksite Wellness Program;
  • ·         Many FDOH-Escambia staff deployed to areas across the state to serve on response teams including efforts for Hurricane Matthew and the Zika response;
  • ·         The Tobacco Free Florida in Escambia County Program provided technical assistance necessary for the University of West Florida’s implementation of a campus-wide tobacco-free policy;
  • ·         By December 2016, the Area 1 STD Program reported the first decrease of syphilis cases in Escambia County since 2013; and
  • ·         Immunization rates for 2-year-olds, Kindergarten, and 7th grade increased and exceeded the state average and state goal beyond 95%.
