FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IN ESCAMBIA COUNTY ANNOUNCES FLORIDA HEALTHY BABIES COMMUNITY MEETING

Pensacola, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Escambia County will be hosting a community meeting to discuss Florida Healthy Babies. Florida Healthy Babies is a collaborative statewide initiative designed to positively influence the community’s health by reducing social and racial disparities in infant mortality. The meeting will take place at the Sacred Heart Cancer Center on Wednesday, June 22nd from 8:30-10:30 a.m. CDT.
“This is a great opportunity for members of the community to work together to find solutions for achieving health equity in our area,” said FDOH-Escambia’s Director John J. Lanza, MD, PhD, MPH, FAAP.
Recently, the departmentinvested $1.4 millionin the Florida Healthy Babies initiative, which is an effort of the department’s Health Equity Program Council. The Council focuses on helping all Floridians achieve optimal health. Part of the funding provided to all 67 counties supports an advanced analysis of infant mortality data. The results of Escambia County, Florida’s analysis will be shared at the community meeting to develop an action plan that will address local disparities in infant mortality.
