Rolling Hills Landfill Preliminary Health Consultation Report Available for Review

PENSACOLA, FL – The Florida Department of Health’s Public Health Toxicology section has completed a health consultation for hydrogen sulfide gas emissions from the Rolling Hills landfill, located in the Wedgewood community of Escambia County, Florida. The health consultation was conducted at the request of the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (FDOH-Escambia).

A preliminary report of the health consultation has been released for public review and comment. Comments will be reviewed and considered when completing the final report, which is scheduled for release later this spring. The comment period for the preliminary report will close on April 30, 2015.

The preliminary health consultation report can be reviewed on FDOH-Escambia’s website, EscambiaHealth.com and on Escambia County’s website, MyEscambia.com. Comments will not be taken through the FDOH-Escambia website or through Escambia County’s website.

The preliminary health consultation report will be available for review on the Florida Department of Health’s (FDOH) central website next week. The FDOH website will contain information regarding how the public can submit comments on the findings. In addition to electronic publication, a summary of the preliminary report will be mailed to approximately 750 property owners near the landfill site. The summary will also contain information about how to provide comments on the preliminary report.

An open-house public meeting will occur on March 27, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Marie K. Young-Wedgewood Community Center, located at 6405 Wagner Road, Pensacola, Florida. Representatives from FDOH, FDOH-Escambia, and Escambia County are currently scheduled to attend this meeting. Persons may attend at any time during the meeting period to ask questions and to provide comments on the preliminary health consultation report.
